Upgraded CNC and RP suite with a new Objet30 3D printer

In recent years rapid prototyping has become an essential tool in the product development process and a facility we use for many of our clients here at CDP. This is because you only really know how well your design works when you test it on the bench or put it into the hands of potential customers. The sooner a physical prototype becomes available, the faster you can refine your design, achieving a higher quality end result enabling a faster entry to market. For these reasons CDP has recently upgraded its CNC and RP suite by adding a new Objet30 3D printer. This state of the art machine prints high resolution parts with a number of material property options.

Karl Hewson, CAE manager at CDP explained, “Having this new system on-site allows us to immediately produce a wide range of parts to support our development and consumer testing process. Our in house facility can make both large and small high precision CNC machined parts, as well as medium and now high resolution RP parts in a variety of materials. This allows our team to create a new design in Solidworks, Pro-E or Alias and have the prototype part on their desk later the same day. This helps us deliver the best possible return on our client’s investment by quickly creating the breakthrough products they are looking for”.

In addition to fit and function testing we would use Rapid Prototype parts to gain design approval from the client, check product ergonomics and usability, carryout detailed functional analysis with stakeholders, conduct consumer testing and provide early marketing collateral for clients PR or investment activities.
