Merry Christmas from CDP

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Cambridge Design Partnership.

This Christmas we are supporting the charity Cosmos Education www.cosmoseducation.org in their efforts to provide Science and Technology education in the communities of developing nations.
Cambridge Design Partnership is successful because we can employ highly talented and educated people. We see at first hand that creating real and sustainable wealth in a community can be achieved when our educational system enables us to develop the skills we need.

Carol Lo is an electronics engineer at Cambridge Design Partnership is also the Treasurer for Cosmos Education UK and dedicates her spare time to this important programme. Carol told us: “Inspired by my own work experience, I am planning a new type of project with Cosmos Education which involves the development and implementation of “appropriate technologies” in Zambia. We plan to motivate students and teachers from the schools we have already worked with to find grassroots solutions to real problems in energy use and waste management – and they will have full ownership of this process. Science and Technology education is about to leave the classroom and enter the community! With the Christmas donation from Cambridge Design Partnership, we will be able to kick-start the project now, so that we can demonstrate early successes, to help us generate further financial support to sustain a long-term programme.”

In January 2009, Carol and two other Cosmos Education volunteers (with degrees in Physics and Engineering) will be staying at two Lusaka (Zambia) high schools, helping with Physics and Mathematics lessons, homework, as well as running the usual fun science activities that the pupils won’t find in any of their textbooks.

Cambridge Design Partnership wish Carol and her colleagues at Cosmos Education every success with their programmes in the New Year.
