Cambridge event showcases supersonic car and the best of UK engineering
Last week innovative design and technology consultancy Cambridge Design Partnership held an event in conjunction with Cambridge Network, the business network for Cambridge’s technology hub, to celebrate their involvement with the Bloodhound Project and showcase the best of UK engineering.
The Bloodhound Project is supported by many organisations, including a number of Cambridge technology companies who are providing a range of specialist services for the initiative. The rocket-powered car is being built to exceed speeds of 1,000 miles per hour in an attempt to break the world land speed record.
Sponsored by Cambridge Design Partnership, who helped Cambridge Network organise the event, the evening proved to be a hit with the 190 attendees, who gathered to hear talks, see footage of rocket tests, and try out the ‘Bloodhound Driving Experience’ simulator, which allowed delegates the virtual experience of driving over 1,000mph!
The event included talks from Tony Parraman, Head of Sponsor Liaison at Bloodhound, who presented the aims and challenges of the Bloodhound Project, and highlighted the inspiring education programme that the Project delivers to schools nationwide. Mike Beadman discussed why Cambridge Design Partnership became a sponsor and how they went on to develop the design of the steering wheel for the Bloodhound car. John Frankham from Cosworth also presented about their involvement.
Commenting on the evening, Mike Beadman of Cambridge Design Partnership said, “It was fantastic to see so much interest in engineering and design, and particularly good to see a number of younger people attending. Cambridge Design Partnership got on board with the Bloodhound project because we believe it’s vital to encourage children to develop an interest in science and engineering, and Bloodhound is actively inspiring the next generation. We’re proud to be part of the Bloodhound journey and look forward to the exciting developments that are still to come.”
The event was held on Thursday 7th November and was available free of charge to members of Cambridge Network.
