Innovative technology and design consultancy Cambridge Design Partnership last night unveiled its brand new purpose built R&D Centre in Toft, near Cambridge, UK. The new state-of-the-art facilities will enable the company to deliver world-class innovation into the future. The expansion marks a milestone in the company’s development and the occasion was celebrated with an event attended by clients, strategic partners and press.
Cambridge Design Partnership has enjoyed steady organic growth since it was founded in 1996. Today large international companies make up the majority of the company’s business and last year saw 19 new permanent staff join the company – taking the headcount to over 60 scientists, engineers and designers.
In order to accommodate this growing team and diverse range of projects, in 2012 the company invested in a new building on a brown field site adjacent to its current offices in Toft. After 18 months of work, the disused barn on the site has been replaced with a state of the art building containing laboratories, prototyping workshops and meetings rooms, including a conference room with capacity for 100 people. Other new additions include:
- Four new purpose built laboratories complete with specialist electronics lab and optics labs, metrology facilities, environmental test systems and fume cupboards
- A new user research suite with viewing facilities and full A/V recording equipment
- A rapid prototyping suite with two 3D printers
- Large workshop with three CNC milling machines, two lathes and support equipment
- A foam and model making room complete with a large spray booth
The launch of the new R&D Centre was celebrated alongside the official launch of Cambridge Design Partnership’s new corporate identity including a redesigned brand, logo, and website. The refreshed identity represents a new era for the business focused on creating global innovation and maintaining its world leading reputation for design excellence.
Speaking about the expansion and R&D Centre launch Mike Cane, Founder, Cambridge Design Partnership said: “Our new facilities mean that we can now offer our clients an increasing range of specialist innovation capabilities, such as front end insight generation and user experience research, short run manufacturing to support clinical and user trials, and medical device verification and validation programs. Our new facilities will ensure that our growing team can deliver an outstanding service to all our customers now and in the future.”
