Healthcare innovation specialists Don Westwood and Tad Simons share with Cambridge Design Partnership (CDP) a passion for design and innovation and have an impressive track record in healthcare and life sciences with their company Pyxera. They focus on developing clients’ next offerings in the rapidly changing healthcare landscape and help build internal innovation capabilities. This complements CDP’s product development resources, large team, extensive sector experience and the scalable capability needed for complex healthcare projects. The integrated approach brings the best of design, product and manufacturing engineering which results in the opportunity to innovate more quickly and successfully.
CDP helps clients innovate by using proven design processes and applying broad technical knowledge and experience of the healthcare industry. The team’s combined experience spans the development of devices, diagnostics and drug delivery systems across many areas of medicine including diabetes, haematology, pulmonology, anaesthesia and cardiology, including ablation and catheter technologies. It also includes consumer healthcare products such as wearables, nutrition supplements and other wellbeing products.
Tad Simons explained, “By revealing evidence and insights into how new products interact in the current landscape of care, we can help companies make well-informed choices about new offerings. Then we develop new products and services by creating efficient development strategies, defining compelling product features and collaborating to execute the details of production. Many firms develop new internal innovation capabilities while working with us and we bring our client’s talent into the design process to enrich the knowledge and skills applied to every project, which expands the range of possible solutions and streamlines implementation.”
Dom Freeman, CDP’s US Healthcare Business Development Director added, “Our clients will see the benefits of this collaboration across every interaction – from early conversations about their innovation challenge, the creation of strategic development plans and creative designs, to accelerated industrialisation under regulatory compliant quality systems. As the industries of healthcare and life sciences move from promoting isolated products to coordinating them in complex systems of care (or more complex programs of research), our combined knowledge of the business landscape, users, design, technologies and manufacturing processes provides the resources that will help clients move forward with confidence and success.”
Also joining CDP’s US team this year is Alan Cucknell, whose expertise lies in helping to identify strategic innovation opportunities for clients and managing the translation of these into successful business results. Alan explains, “I’m excited to work with Tad and Don and to bring further strategic innovation, design and engineering capability to our growing US client base."

The combined CDP team would welcome the opportunity to discuss with our clients what this means for them and how they might benefit from the collaboration.
